English :
Once upon a time, there was a young boy who belonged to a very wealthy family. He lived in a huge house filled with expensive furniture, modern gadgets, luxury cars, and everything money could buy. Since childhood, he had grown up believing that his family was among the richest and happiest people in the world.
One day, his father thought that his son was becoming too dependent on material comforts and was slowly losing the understanding of real happiness. To teach him an important life lesson, the father decided to take him to a small village where a poor farmer and his family lived.
After a long journey, they reached a simple farm surrounded by green fields, trees, and a flowing river. The farmer’s family welcomed them warmly even though they had very little. Their house was small, their clothes were simple, and they worked hard every day to earn food for their family.
The boy and his father stayed there for a few days. During that time, the boy observed how the family lived. The children played together happily in the open fields. They laughed freely, shared their meals, helped each other in work, and enjoyed nature around them. At night, instead of expensive lights and decorations, they sat under the bright stars and enjoyed the cool breeze.
The boy noticed that despite not having much money, the family looked peaceful, united, and joyful.
After spending several days there, the father and son returned home. On the way back, the father asked his son,
“So, did you enjoy the trip? What did you learn from this experience?”
The boy smiled and replied,
“Yes, Father, I learned a lot. I realized how poor we actually are.”
The father was shocked and asked, “What do you mean?”
The boy explained:
“We have only one dog, but they have four dogs and many animals. We have a small swimming pool, but they have a beautiful river that never ends. We buy food from stores, but they grow their own fresh food. We have walls and fences to protect us, but they have good neighbours and friends who care for them. At night, we use expensive lights, but they have the stars shining above them. We live inside our limited property, but they have endless fields and open skies.”
The father listened silently.
Then the boy added,
“Thank you, Father, for showing me how truly rich they are.”
The father finally understood that real wealth is not measured by money, luxury, or possessions. True richness lies in love, happiness, freedom, togetherness, peace, and gratitude.
- Real happiness does not come from money or expensive things.
- Love, family, friendship, health, peace, and nature are the greatest treasures in life.
- A person who is grateful for what they have is truly rich.
- Wealth is not about possessions; it is about contentment and happiness.
Marathi :
