Once upon a time, an old man lived alone in Minnesota. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but the work was too toilsome for the old man. His only son, who would have helped him in this work, was in prison.
His son was actually caught by the police due to some misunderstanding and taken into custody. He couldn’t get bail because of his poverty.
Now it was time for them to ready the field, but the father was feeling helpless. The old man was feeling distressed so he wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:
Dear Son, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden because your mother had always loved planting. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot all by myself. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would have dug the plot for me if you weren’t in prison – Love, Dad
Shortly, the old man received this telegram from his son in response to his letter:
‘For Heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up the garden!! That’s where I buried my precious GUNS!!’ Dad was extremely sad after receiving this letter.
At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without any prior notice.
At the end, they all seemed disappointed as if they couldn’t find that what they were looking for. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what had happened, and asked him what to do next.
To this, his son’s reply was: ‘Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It’s the best I could do for you from here.’

एके काळी मिनेसोटा राज्यात एक म्हातारा माणूस एकटाच राहत होता. त्याला त्याच्या बटाट्याच्या शेतात फाळ मारायचा होता, पण ते काम त्याच्यासाठी खूप कष्टाचे होते. त्याचा एकुलता एक मुलगा, जो या कामात त्याला मदत करू शकला असता, तो तुरुंगात होता.
त्याच्या मुलाला प्रत्यक्षात पोलिसांनी एका गैरसमजातून पकडले होते आणि ताब्यात घेतले होते. गरिबीमुळे त्याला जामीन मिळू शकला नव्हती.
आता शेती तयार करण्याची वेळ आली होती, पण म्हातारा असहाय्य वाटत होता. तो खूपच खिन्न झाला आणि त्याने आपल्या
मुलाला पत्र लिहून आपली परिस्थिती सांगितली:
प्रिय मुला,
मला फार वाईट वाटतंय कारण यावर्षी बटाट्याचं पीक लावता येणार नाही असं दिसतंय. मला शेती करणं चुकवायला आवडत नाही कारण तुझ्या आईला नेहमी लागवड करणं खूप आवडायचं. मी आता एकट्याने शेतीचा तुकडा उकरायला खूप म्हातारा झालो आहे. तू इथे असतास तर माझी सगळी अडचण सुटली असती. तू इथे असतास तर नक्कीच शेत उकरून दिलं असतंस…. प्रेम, बाबा.
थोड्याच वेळात म्हाताऱ्याला मुलाकडून टेलिग्राम आला:
“बापरे बाबा, शेत अजिबात उकरू नको!! तिथेच मी माझ्या मौल्यवान बंदुका पुरल्या आहेत!!”
हे वाचून म्हाताऱ्याचे मन खूप खिन्न झाले.
दुसऱ्या दिवशी पहाटे ४ वाजता, एक डझन FBI एजंट आणि स्थानिक पोलिस अचानक आले आणि शेत पूर्णपणे खोदून काढले.
शेवटी त्यांना काहीच सापडलं नाही, त्यामुळे ते निराश होऊन निघून गेले.
गोंधळलेल्या म्हाताऱ्याने पुन्हा आपल्या मुलाला पत्र लिहून काय घडले ते सांगितले आणि पुढे काय करावे याबद्दल विचारले.
त्यावर मुलाने उत्तर पाठवले:
“आता बटाटे लावायला सुरूवात कर बाबा. इथून बसून मी एवढंच तुझ्यासाठी करू शकलो.”
आपण जगात कुठेही असलो तरी, जर आपल्याला काहीतरी करण्याची तीव्र इच्छा असेल तर मार्ग नक्की सापडतो. खरी इच्छा आणि निश्चय महत्त्वाचा असतो!
मजबूत इच्छाशक्ती नेहमीच मार्ग शोधते.
